What is consumptions?
In the garments trade, consumption means quantity of raw materials with a view to determine the price of a garment. In order to calculate the above quantity how much fabric, sewing thread, zipper, button and other accessories are required to produce a garment up to exporting is called consumption.
Internationally fabrics have five types of width as in 35 inch – 45 inch – 50 inch – 60 inch. Generally it is visible that after consumption of fabric, we have to perform some washing, brushing or finishing treatment to develop fabric quality. After performing the above treatment, fabric shrinks 1”- 2” from dimension.

A detail consumption of different parts of some garments is given bellow :
Say Fabric width = (45”-1” shrinkage allowance) = 44”, Then consumption formula
= (length x Width) / (fabric Width x 36”)
Alternative Shirt Measurement:
- Neck = 16”
- Body Length = (Neck x 2) = 16 x 2 = 32”
- Chest = (Neck x 3 ) =16 x 3 = 48”
- Across Shoulder = (Neck x 1.5 ) = 16 x 1.5 = 24”
- Sleeve Length = (Across Shoulder – 1) = 24-1= 23”
- Bottom Opening = Chest = 48”
- Arm Hole = Sleeve Length = 23”
